SBT has
launched depository participant services with National Securities
Depository Limited (NSDL). This services provide facilities for maintaining demat accounts ,
dematerialisation, re-materialisation
and transfer of shares. The depository will also undertake delivery instructions
for market and off-market transactions, pledge and hypothecation of securities
and receipts of corporate actions. Customers
can now hold their securities as electronic book entries and
transfer securities without actually handling physical scrip.
Why should one hold securities in dematerialised form?
In the demat form, Shareholders do not run the risk of
theft, loss, misplacement, bad deliveries, or damage to scrip. There is no stamp duties on transfers of securities. Most of the shares can be traded only if it is in the demat
form.
The settlement cycle is faster. Shareholders do not lose out on
market opportunities as the securities are available in their
account immediately after pay out period. There are no
cumbersome transfer deeds to be signed and bonus and rights shares
are credited by issuers directly into their demat account, cash
components to their bank accounts directly
through ECS, eliminating delays.
When customers purchase new issues of securities in the primary
market, they are directly credited to their account on
allotment. SBT is registered with NSDL as a Depository
Participant, which permits us to perform the following activities:
