State Bank of Travancore presents SBT NRI CARE (A Personal Accident & Health Insurance Plan to NRE account holders of SBT) in association with United India Insurance Co. Ltd.(UIIC)  The scheme is open to all Non Resident Indians holding NRE account with the Bank.

The upper age limit is fixed at 80 years. Dependant children in the age group of 3 months to 21 years are eligible for coverage under this scheme provided one or both parents are covered under the scheme concurrently.

How does one take a policy?

Fill up the proposal form and hand it over to SBT Branch and pay the prescribed premium. The premium can also be transferred from your NRE account to UIIC. The bank would submit the forms to United India Insurance Co Ltd. The proposal form can be downloaded from this site or can be collected from our branches.

What is the coverage under SBT NRI CARE?

The package covers personal accident insurance to the NRI, Death, Permanent Total Disability (PTD) Repatriation expense of dead body, (all arising out of an accident) and Hospitalisation expenses for NRI, spouse and 2 children  only in India.

What are the special features of this scheme?

It covers the NRI for personal accident.  NRI and family gets Hospitalisation cover which is floating amount covering  spouse, two dependant children and self. Repatriation expenses in case of accidental death of NRI abroad. Compensation towards education fund upto Rs. 10.000/- for the dependent insured  children in the event of  accidental death or PTD of the insured NRI.

When does the claim become payable?

The claim becomes payable on death or Permanent Total disablement of NRI (only the named NRI is covered for PA segment), either in India or abroad. The Policy also covers total loss of limbs or eye or both (all arising out of an accident). For Hospitalisation component the policy is activated when either the NRI or the family members gets hospitalised in India for an illness or accident. All claim payments would be only in Indian currency.

When the NRI takes the policy, their family members can be residing either at India or abroad to become eligible for claim.

Are the expenses of Hospitalisation while at abroad covered?

No. The policy covers treatment taken in India only. But the policy would provide compensation for accidents occurring anywhere in the world.

When does the cover start and what is the duration of cover?

The policy would commence when the premium is received at United India Insurance Co. Ltd. and would last for one year. The policy document would be mailed to the contact address of NRI in India  within 30 days of commencement.

How can one make a claim under the policy?

All you have to do is to get in touch with your SBT Branch or the nearest office of United India Insurance Co. Ltd. They will guide you further and provide the necessary form.
